SE NEW MEXICO We started the first day of our planned 2 week chase in Midland, TX. Our target was SE New Mexico where the best combination of dynamics were coming together. After spending most of the day waiting for storms to fire between Carlsbad and Artesia we finally heard of storms coming off the mountain's around Alamogordo, NM. This led us west from Artesia on hwy 82. West of Hope, NM we found storms with inflow bands stretching to the east. We caught brief glimpses of a couple of weak tornado's and funnels to our SW but couldn't get clear of the rain and dust enough to sit and watch for long. As the storms gusted out the sun set provided a great spectacle. We decided to stay in Lubbock and drove through heavy rain, lightning, and rotating storms all the way.
