| MAY 27TH SW Kansas/NW Oklahoma |

|---|---|---|
| This was the first day of our chase week. Southwest Kansas looked to be our target so Michael Cohen, Ed Cohen, and myself left early Sunday morning for the Liberal, KS. area. We were rather data poor most of the day so we were mostly going on what we had seen before leaving. As we arrived in Liberal the winds had increased and shifted to the southwest but the dewpoint remained rather high. As we drifted north and east of Liberal we heard of severe storms already firing NW of Dodge City. We could se cumulus along a boundary to our east so we continued towards it. We soon could see the Dodge City storm to our north and watched it struggle for a while. We moved a bit east and noticed a wall cloud to our north and set up to watch for a while. Before long we had a raging MCS to our north chasing us down Hwy 283 into Oklahoma. We stayed ahead of this beast all the way to Elk city, OK. capturing one of the prettiest/meanest looking storms I've ever seen. We met chasers later in the week that didn't escape and lost all of their rear windows to the wind. Glad we stayed ahead of it. | ||

| A wall-cloud to the north catches our eyes. We see an unknown lighter feature back in the storm. The storm quickly becomes outflow dominant. | ||

| As we were chased down Hwy 283 into Oklahoma a stack of plates filled the sky to our north. Run away!!! For other views check out Patrick Kerrin's, Amos A. Magliocco's, or John Moore's pages on this event. |
