MAY 29TH
Claude, TX
Day 3 started in Liberal, KS. We visited the Library and ran into Tim Marshall and Carson Eads who were just finishing their analysis. We targeted the area SW of Amarillo, TX. and headed south. As we drove through Amarillo storms were trying to fire just SW of town and we thought about heading down hwy 287 to get east of town but traffic on I40 was at a near standstill and I didn't want to get caught in town so we drove on south of town and watched. Initially the storms SW of town seemed to be high based. When we heard of the Littlefield storm we plotted an intercept that carried us over to hwy 207 and south. Once on 207 and heading south the storm now near Tulia appeared to be falling apart since we could see through the precip. Meanwhile we could see a new storm SW of Amarillo that looked like an atomic blast so we turned around and blasted north to Claude, TX. then NW a bit on hwy 287 where we found a spot to watch a gorgeous LP grow before our eye's. We could have probably made the White Deer storm if we hadn't stopped but how could anyone pass up a storm like this. We later drove up the back side of our now HP storm for some great sunset shots. Drove to Shamrock, TX for dinner at the McDonalds where we met Gene Roden, Robert Willis, and several others. Soon Sam Barricklow showed up and we got to view his White Deer video. Great job!! Sam. Great day for all!!
