Wall-Cloud!

From 7 miles south of Dimmitt, Tx. a new storm develops to our west and quickly forms a wall-cloud with an RFD cut on it's southern flank. This wall-cloud grows rapidly, as it lowers and forms a small tail-cloud toward the rain. As the wall-cloud tightens we hear Project Vortex on the scanner, "NOAA 43 BWER WITH HOOK 19km, 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF DIMMITT". A few moments later the report of 100kts gate to gate at both upper and lower levels of the storm. We watch as the clear slot moves east of Hwy. 385 and wraps into a large wall-cloud with tremendous rotation.

RFD!
With the wall-cloud about to cross Hwy. 385 to our north we decide to go south to FM 145 and reposition to our northeast. This is what we were looking at as we turned the car around. What we didn't see was the broad funnel to our NNW. Click on this image for the larger version and a hint. Can you say bad move!
Tornado!
After driving about a mile south we hear Vortex's probe 1 reporting a tornado on the ground to our north and with a look over my shoulder I see a large white cone just west of the road. We swing around and punch back north while shooting video of the cone crossing the road straight ahead. "Power flash!" The tornado moves off to the northeast and grows as we watch cloud-tags wrap around and into it with rapid motion.
Wedge!
As cloud-tags wrap into the tornado it grows even further and as it moves through plowed fields it picks up a huge brown debre cloud at it's base. Even now a large cylinder can be seen through the wrapping tags. Finally we reach power lines down accross the road and have to be content to watch as this famous wedge moves off to the east of Dimmitt. Luckily Project Vortex nailed this one and will be doing research for quite a while. YES!!!

35MM scans
After being stopped by the damage path across hwy 385 I was able to take a few 35MM pictures.
