| THE CHASE ACCOUNT |
| The models showed a weak cold front entering northwest Oklahoma by evening with a dryline from the eastern Oklahoma panhandle into the Texas panhandle. SPC had a moderate risk from central Kansas to northwest Oklahoma. At 250mb a jet streak would be stretching SW to NE across NW Oklahoma with the nose of a much stronger jet diving SE through Colorado for SW Kansas. With all this and dewpoints well into the 70F in southern Oklahoma our target was the area just NW of Woodward, OK. My chase partner Michael Cohen and I left Ft. Worth just after 11:00am (should have been about an hour earlier) and headed north on I35. We planned to get updates before making a decision at OKC. We decided to continue north and not loose our options into southern Kansas. After talking to Ed Cohen via cell phone we learned of TCU growing in the eastern OK panhandle and headed west on HWY 412 toward Enid, OK. Soon a tornado watch was issued in our target zone and a strong cell was in the Ok panhandle so we continued west toward Woodward. At Woodward we headed north on hwy 34 to get east of the storm. Soon we could make out the flank and then we saw a thin funnel that was 3/4 or better to the ground. This was brief and gone before we could video it but we stopped and did video a nice truncated cone in the haze. We couldn't confirm a touchdown. After filming for a while we moved north to get east of our storm and it developed a nice southern fland and wall-cloud before it fell apart. We moved on north into southern KS and east toward Medicine Lodge where we watched new storms go up and a great sunset. After dark we were treated to a nice lightning display as the front finally lit up.
